Pink Shirt Day is a national initiative that invites people of all ages to wear pink as a visible commitment
to fostering kindness, empathy, and healthy relationships in our schools and communities. The 2026
theme, “Sprinkle Kindness” highlights how small, intentional acts of care and respect can positively shape
school culture and strengthen student well-being.
At its core, Pink Shirt Day is about modelling the values that help students thrive – compassion, trust,
dignity, and joy. When caring adults and peers demonstrate kindness and respectful relationships, it
reinforces safe, supportive learning environments where every student feels heard, valued, and
connected.
Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 when two Nova Scotia high school students organized a show of solidarity
to support a peer affected by bullying. Since then, it has evolved into an opportunity for schools to
intentionally promote positive relationships and affirm the shared responsibility we all hold in creating
healthy and safe environments to learn.
