On October 10th Wear Green to Support Mental Health
Hello Gator Families!
Thursday October 10th is World Mental Health Day. It is an international day for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma.
It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health. This is a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.
At HWDSB, our focus is centred on students having a deep and meaningful sense of belonging while experiencing impactful learning outcomes for all. At Billy Green, our goal is to ensure that every student experiences a sense of belonging, safety, and space to reach their full potential. We want our Gators to grow as confident, kind, compassionate and capable individuals sharing their lived experiences with each other. Mental Health can affect anyone, young or old. Having a strong support system of family, friends, teachers, and other caring adults can make difficult conversations a little easier to navigate.
Here are some ways you can help a friend or someone you love who may be struggling with their Mental Health:
- Practice active listening
- Ask if you can help in any way
- Don’t ever judge or compare
- Be a buddy, and sit with them
- Know when to ask an adult for help
- Give them a hug!
- Practice kindness
On Thursday, we wear green to show our support of World Mental Health Day!
