May Update from our Principal

Hello Billy Green Families,
.
It is hard to believe that just over a month has gone by since I first arrived at the school.  As I continue each day, talking with students, staff and families I am reminded each day of the strength and uniqueness of this community.  Billy Green truly is a special place.
.
Over the course of April, we have had four spirit days, seen our Band participate in Bandfest, ran our gift card fundraiser (THANK you for your support), had our grade 3s participate in Swim to Survive, seen our senior swim team work hard in practice, and conducted our first student voice survey to gather our student’s perspective about what would make us even better while at Billy Green.  What an amazing month!
.

Well-Being and Engagement – Student Voice:  As we place our focus on well-being and engagement, we know the importance of student voice.  We are excited to have been able to gather student voice from all students from FDK to grade 8.  Students let us know what would make Billy Green even better.  Their answers are being thoughtfully considered and include: more lines painted for games outside, student announcement crew, student recognition awards and more…
.
BE YOU BE EXCELLENT AWARDS: Thanks to the voice of our students, we are excited to begin to recognize students weekly with the Be You, Be Excellent Award.  As we focus as a school on well-being and engagement, and our core values Compassion, Dignity, Trust and Joy – we going to be recognizing one student (or a class, or a group of students) in a new Be You, Be Excellent recognition.  Students will receive a certificate and an opportunity to select a token of some sort from a basket. Specifically, the Be You Be Excellent Award recognizes the following:
  • Treating others in a manner that makes them feel included, seen and heard
  • Using problem solving skills to help create positive spaces with others (in FDK this may be sharing or using kind words, for older students this might be positive encouragement)
  • Feeling free to be themselves while showing compassion, dignity, trust and joy for others
  • Focusing on personal excellence
.
We are excited to congratulate Kingsley B from JSC as our first award recipient!  I look forward to recognizing more students as the weeks go on.
.
We thank you families for the privilege of allowing us to connect with your children each day.
.
Sincerely,
.
Ms. Beatrice
