December Update

BG Families,

Happy December to all our BG Families!

It is hard to believe that December is already underway and 2023 has almost come to a close. We look back and reflect on the months that have passed. We have seen and appreciated the resiliency, growth, and kindness of our staff, students and families.

We very thankful to our teachers, DECEs, educational assistants, CYCP, office staff, custodians and family community for their ongoing commitment and for working hard every day to support our students and each other.

We are so fortunate to have a diverse community of learners at Billy Green. We have students who were born in many different countries, representing many different cultures.  We have students and staff who wear symbols of their religions or cultures at school (e.g., hijab, fez, cross, kirpan).  As members of the Billy Green Community, we all have a role to play in creating a culture where all students and staff feel safe, supported, and accepted. We are continuing to teach our students to show respect for themselves, their peers and staff. We appreciate when you are able to reinforce these same messages at home.

 

Supervision

Student supervision on the playground begins at 8:25am.  Students should not be on our school yard before then. At the end of the day students being picked up, should be picked up at the 3:00pm dismissal bell.  Students walking home should make their way home in a timely manner.

 

Popcorn & Pizza

Popcorn Tuesdays are continuing at BG.  Kernels popcorn is on sale to students during Nutrition Break 1 every Tuesday for $2.50/bag. Funds raised through the sale of popcorn will be used to offset the cost of educational excursions.  Pizza Thursdays are continuing with orders made monthly through School Cash Online ($2.00/slice).

 

School Council

School Council’s next meeting will be January 11 in the school library.  School Council handed out the Epicure orders earlier this week.

 

Cookbook

Thanks to all families who were able to contribute to our Billy Green Cookbook.  We will have more information about sales early in 2024.

 

Food Drive

Our winter Food Drive will be starting December 11 and continuing to December 20. We encourage you to contribute if you are able.

 

Winter Showcase

Our Winter Showcase will be coming up December 20. Please bring a non-perishable food item if you are able to .  Please see the details of show times below:

Kindergarten: 9:20am (featuring Mrs. Dawson & Mrs. Anderson’s class, Mrs. Star & Mrs. McCrory’s class, Mrs. Voth & Miss Lewis’ class, our Concert Band)

Grades 4-8: 11:30pm (featuring Mrs. Palmer’s class, Mrs. Ott’s class, Mr. Forrest’s class, Mrs. Lubertino’s class, Mrs. Tremain’s class, Ms. Rodic’s class, and our Concert Band)

Grades 1-3: 1:50am (featuring Mrs. DiCecca’s class, Mrs. Mitchell’s class, Mrs. Rusan’s class Mrs. Cammisoli’s class, Mrs. Barr’s class, and our Concert Band)

To respect the safety and confidentially of all of our students, we ask that parents/guardians/caregivers only take pictures of their own student.  We have many students who do not have consent to have their picture taken.
