School Council – Mon Oct 26

BG Families,

Our first School Council meeting will be Monday, October 26 at 6:30pm online (a link to the meeting will be sent out next week).

What is School Council

The focus of a School Council is to improve student learning, achievement and well-being and enhance the accountability of the education system to parents. School Councils are advisory committees – they provide advice to the principal and school board. Every school must have a school council (members include parents, the principal, school staff, and a community representative). The majority of members must be parents, and the chair must be a parent. You do not have to be a member to attend council meetings.

School Councils must hold annual elections to identify voting members and various positions such as School Council Chair.  Elected members vote on School Council matters and represent the group’s ideas and advisory suggestions to the Principal.  You do not have to be an elected member of School Council to attend meetings.  All meetings are open to all parents/guardians who wish to attend.

To declare your interest in becoming and elected member on School Council please submit a Declaration of Interest. You may also nominate another parent/guardian of a student our school to become an elected School Council member.  All declarations/nominations must be submitted by Monday, October 19.  You must attend the first school council meeting to be elected to council.
