Notes and News
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe that September is almost behind us! So much has already happened at school, and this is just the beginning of an exciting year ahead.
Reorganization
It is at this time of year that HWDSB makes adjustments to schools and classes based on student enrolment.
I am thrilled to share with you that Ancaster Meadow will not be engaging in a reorganization this year!
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
We look forward to Monday, September 30th, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We will continue to learn and grow with a lens on Indigenous perspectives, both historical and current. One of our important school goals is:
We will honour our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation by nurturing respectful and reciprocal relationships among Indigenous Peoples and Treaty Partners, and by cultivating intergenerational healing and wellness in a restorative education system.
Wearing an orange shirt on Monday is one way of symbolizing our commitment.
Our Land Acknowledgement, created by former students of Ancaster Meadow, and read each morning by students is:
“At Ancaster Meadow, we recognize that we are on the traditional land of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee, and that we’ve made an agreement represented by the Dish With One Spoon Treaty Wampum Belt to share and take care of the land and the water with a good mind and a good heart. We say the Land Acknowledgement to help us remember our responsibilities and the history of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee people who were here long before settlers arrived. We must respect our environment, and we must treat others the way we want to be treated.”
Mud!
With the wetter weather starting, we are asking that students have two pairs of shoes at school – an indoor pair for the classroom and an outdoor pair for recess. This will help keep classrooms and hallways cleaner. We appreciate your help with this.
We are also working to eliminate some of the mud on the path beside the school.
Parent Council and Home & School
We held our first meetings this past Wednesday, and we are excited to do some planning for the year ahead. Parent engagement and community events are certainly on the horizon. If you would be willing to become a volunteer for Ancaster Meadow, please be sure to have a Vulnerable Sector Check done from our local police station, and then fill out the Volunteer Forms from our school. If you have any questions, please contact the school.
Pizza Mondays
Thanks to Home & School for setting up Pizza Mondays again for this year! We’ll start Oct 21st, and information will come home shortly about placing your orders on School Cash Online. Stay tuned!!
Have a wonderful weekend,
