Principal Update Oct 23

Hello,

As I mentioned last week, I have been transitioning to a new role with the school board. Starting on Monday, Sean Malcolmson will be filling in as Interim Principal. He is the recently retired principal of CH Bray and Spring Valley and is familiar with the Ancaster Meadow community. He was a Vice-Principal at Ancaster Meadow the year it opened.

The HWDSB has sent a message to all parents yesterday informing the community that elementary schools across the city are undergoing a significant reorganization. The school is working through the impact of this reorganization and communication will occur next week. Ancaster Meadow has lost additional classes and student moves will be required. Everyone is appreciative of the impact that this has on students; while the reorganization is a process that must be completed, every attempt is made to limit the number of required moves to a minimum.

The protocols in place to keep staff and students safe will have an impact on Halloween celebrations in schools. Unfortunately that means that the traditional costume parade cannot take place. Celebrations will be classroom-based and teachers will communicate specific information about what is happening in those classes. There can be no shared food or drink and items cannot be brought in to be passed out. Students may chose to wear a costume but all costumes must allow a proper face mask that meets the protocols to be worn (a costume mask is not an acceptable replacement). Students wearing a costume should be prepared to wear it for the whole day, they cannot be changing and storing costume items at school.

I wish all the Meadow families the best. Take care and stay safe.

Simon Goodacre, Principal
