Principal Update Oct 18

Hello,

This week ended with a number of our students in grade 7 and 8 attending the ECO Summit event at Mohawk College. This is one example of the huge number of opportunities that Ancaster Meadow has to offer. Our announcements have been busy this week with notices of activities such as: Robotics club, Senior volleyball,  soccer tryouts, and flag football. The daily announcements are on our school website for parents to access.

Ancaster Meadow has a wonderful tradition of charity donations. This month we have finalized our total for the Terry Fox run and will donate over $5000 to cancer research. Ancaster Meadow has raised over $80 000 for Terry Fox over the past 15 years. October is also “Sock-tober” at Ancaster Meadow where socks are collected and donated to local charities.

To celebrate our fundraising total for Terry Fox, Mr. Zwolak and myself have agreed to play “egg roulette” at a school assembly next week. If you have never seen “egg roulette” a quick Google search will show that Mr. Zwolak and myself will get very messy and students will have a lot of fun.

Some important upcoming dates are:

Tuesday Oct 22 – School Council (6:30pm), Home & School Association (7:30pm)

Tuesday Oct 29 – Progress Reports go home

Thursday Nov 7 – Picture retake day

Thursday Nov 7 (evening)/ Friday Nov 8 (day time) – parent-teacher interviews (No school for students)

I need to remind parents of some provincial requirements regarding Safe School protocols. During instructional times, only students and staff can be in hallways and classrooms. Any parents or visitors must enter the school through the front doors and sign in to the office. Parents should not be walking students directly to class after the bell rings. Kindergarten parents should bring students to the outside play areas or to the office.  These procedures are in place to ensure student safety, your cooperation is appreciated.

The HWDSB runs an event that showcases specialty high school programs and is targeted to families of students in gr 7 and 8: myPath, myWay is Tuesday, October 22nd from 5:30 pm-8:30 pm at Liuna Station. Permission forms are going to for our grade 8 students to participate in the Day in the Life program at Ancaster High on Nov 6. This is an introduction for students Ancaster High and starts the process of helping students to plan for the transition to secondary school.

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
