Principal Update Sept 19

This year the announcements and anthem are at the end of period one. Class routines start at 9:00am. It helps reduce the disruptions to the classroom if students are on time.  If families could also sign and return and start up packages if you have not already done so. There had been a problem with the provider of our agendas. We have gone with a new company and should have an order in the first week of October.

We had the first School Council and Home & School Association meetings this Tuesday and it was fantastic to see some new parents around the table. Many of the programs at Ancaster Meadow are run through the dedication of parent volunteers -we thank them for all the work they do! Pizza and Thursday lunch orders are one of the parent volunteer run programs through the Home & School. These orders will be starting in October and order information will be published at a later date.

On Monday Sept 23 there is a combined school event and Home & School fundraiser called “Fuel for Kids.” NASCAR driver David Connelly will perform a race car demonstration for students in the afternoon. Families are then invited to follow up at the Ancaster Fortino’s for a fundraising BBQ.

The school and Home & School are also coordinating a BBQ on Thurs Oct 3rd for Meet the Teacher night. Meet the Teacher will be from 4:30-6:30pm. Home & School will organize a BBQ that evening with more details to come.

Ancaster Meadow has also received some preliminary information about re-organization due to our increased enrolment. As we work hard to determine the changes that are necessary, a specific communication will be distributed on Thurs Sept 26 regarding the impact of re-organization.

There are two parent/caregiver groups offered by HWDSB Social Work Services starting in October 2019. The Cool Little Kids group is for parent/caregivers of students in JK – Grade 2 and the Families Worrying Less Together group is for parent/caregivers of students in Grade 3-6. The target audience for both groups is parents/caregivers of children who struggle with worries and anxious behaviours.

HWDSB Social Work offers these groups several times throughout the year. The first Information Session will be October 15, 2019 and the fall session of the group will start the week after on October 22, 2019 for six weeks. During the PA Day, staff will be working on professional learning related to early reading, math, positive school climate, and health & safety. It is a full day at school even if there are no students!
