Principal Update Sept 13

Hello,

This week has seen a number of  extra-curricular activities at Ancaster Meadow get going as the school year starts. Our boys’ and girls’ 3-pitch teams have been practicing and have tournaments in the coming weeks. Senior volleyball is starting. Cross country is at the end of September and students are already preparing in phys ed class. Caribou Math has the first contest in October but a number of students are already interested; students can visit https://cariboutests.com/ for practice tests and activities.

A kick off assembly was held for the Terry Fox run. The event will take place on Sept 26.Students can fundraise until Sept 30. Donors can receive a tax receipt and can donate at: http://www.terryfox.ca/AncasterMeadowES

All parents are invited to attend the first meetings of our School Council and Home & School Association. Both groups are parent run groups that are involved in the school community but each group has a slightly different focus; parents are welcome to be part of both groups. The first meeting is Tuesday September 17th with School Council starting at 6:30pm followed by the Home & School Association at 7:30pm. Both groups meet in the school Learning Commons (Library). Nomination forms for Executive positions are in the Main Office and nominations can be accepted at the first meeting.  For parents on Facebook, our parent councils host two different Facebook groups: Parents of Ancaster Meadow and Ancaster Meadow Home & School. These groups are hosted and run by parents and can be a useful way to connect.

Pizza and Thursday lunch orders are also run by parent volunteers through the Home & School. These orders will be starting in October and order information will be published at a later date.

Our school Meet the Teacher night is Thurs Oct 3rd from 4:30pm-6:30pm further information will come out in the coming weeks. This later date is chosen in consultation with the parent School Council and is preferred in case classes undergo re-organization.

Fuel for Kids is an upcoming event involving NASCAR driver Dave Connelly. A school event for students will take place the afternoon of Mon Sept 23rd. A follow up fundraiser BBQ  will take place at Fortino’s Ancaster. Details to come.

Save the date for the Meet the teacher night on Thurs Oct 3rd 4:30-6:30pm.Details to come.

Thank you to everyone for their cooperation with the parking lot during drop off and pick up times. Overall things are much improved from last year. The parking lot will remained closed but  will not have the barricades or volunteers up. Families are asked to respect that the lot remains closed during these times. The electronic school sign will display the closure time.
