Principal Update May 3rd

Hello,

This Friday ended an extremely full week at Ancaster Meadow. We had Ancaster High students visit our grade 8s, water polo, basketball, and swimming. We had a workshop regarding Indigenous artwork and students had a chance to complete a bead craft. Our primary and junior choirs also had a highlight and participated in the HWDSB Choir Fest.  Our school Twitter feed @ancastermeadow is an excellent way to see highlights of some of the wonderful activities occurring at the school.

Next week we have students going to the Mayor’s Payer Breakfast, McMaster Let’s Talk Science, junior flag football, and the Gauss math contest.

Other important upcoming dates include grade 3 and 6 EQAO administration on May 22, 23, 27. For families new to Kindergarten next year  there will be a Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday May 23rd, this is a great way for families to find out what our Kindergarten program is all about before starting school. On the same day (Thurs May 23) there will also be a grade 1 orientation running for families with students moving from SK to gr 1 next year.

Yesterday I posted a notice to parents about class placements for next year; parents are encouraged to read the notice on the school website. The HWDSB has also been implementing a new way for families to report absences online (or through an automated phone number); in the coming weeks, our office staff will start directing parents to report through these methods if you contact the school directly.

For students in grade 8, Ancaster High is running a summer orientation course. Information about the course and registration can be found at https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/cce/gr9-orientation/

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principa
