Principal Update – April 18

Hello,

As we go into the long weekend, it looks like spring is finally here. Cool mornings and warm afternoons have led to a number of items in our Lost and Found. If you are missing clothing for your child please come check the Lost and Found in the Main Office.

This week we had some of our primary and junior students attend a play and workshop at the Burlington Centre for the Performing Arts. On Wednesday, Ancaster Meadow was featured on the Hamilton Spectator Pulse page. It is a great way for the wider community to see examples of some of the wonderful student work at Ancaster Meadow.  You will also notice the new spirit wall in the front foyer. Thank you to our Home & School Association for supporting this. Over the coming months, you will continue to see some updating of the foyer and hallway areas.

There are a number of notices of upcoming events and information to highlight this week:

Both Friday and Monday are holidays and there is no school.

With Monday being a holiday, Tuesday will be pizza day.

In consultation with the Home & School Association, the school Open House will move from May to a joint school Open House and Home & School Association BBQ on Wed June 5th. Further details about times and events will come later but please not the date change. Looking forward to seeing as many families as possible on Wed June 5th.

Our Home & School Association is also running some fundraisers. Families can order rain barrels to support the school. Orders can be placed at https://rainbarrel.ca/meadow/ orders need to be placed by April 25th. The Home & School Association is also running a Seeds and Bulbs fundraiser to get everyone in the Spring spirit. Information packages were sent home with students and order information is available on School Cash online. The seeds and bulbs catelogue information is also on the Home & School Facebook page. The Home & School Association will also be having a paint night fundraiser on May 14th. This event will appear shortly on School Cash Online and is capped at a limited number of participants.

Please note that as of Tuesday, April 23, families at all HWDSB schools must use the SafeArrival system to report absences.

Please report your child’s absence by using the website go.schoolmessenger.ca, by using the School Messenger mobile app for Apple and Google phones, or by calling 1-844-506-4350.

We have more detailed information on our school website and on the HWDSB website at Safe Arrivals – new attendance reporting https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/elementary/supports/safe-schools/safearrival-a-new-way-to-report-student-absences/

Ancaster Meadow will be running a summer volleyball program with an emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy for students who are currently in grades 6 and 7. Please go to the follow website for further information and registration https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/cce/summer/summer-non-credit/volleyball/

Have a wonderful long weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
