Principal Update Feb 22

Hello,

While we have made it a week with no weather closures, the ice continues to be a challenge. Despite the efforts of our caretakers and huge amounts of salt there have been times where recess has had to be indoors and some of our outside paths closed due to ice.

While it has been cold outside, our students and staff have been making great use of their time indoors. This week we had a number of basketball games and a team go to the Hamilton Indoor Track & Field games.  We also have a variety of clubs including, checkers, art, and robotics running. Our music room is also a lively place with drop in rehearsal time and band practice.

Several of our classes have been researching the importance of Black History Month. It is wonderful to see students take on leadership roles in helping raise awareness about such important issues.

On Tuesday Feb 26, the School Council (6:30pm) and Home & School (7:30pm) will be held in the school library. New parents are always welcome to attend.  Ancaster Meadow is also hosting some indoor soccer tournaments next week at the Redeemer Sports Dome.

Wed Feb 27 also brings the HWDSB Checkers Tournament 50th Anniversary. Ancaster Meadow staff have a long history of being involved in supporting and organizing the tournament.  A congratulations to Mr. Trikopous for being the organizing committee chair for the past 10 years! In addition to the 50th anniversary, the tournament is also going for a Guinness Book of World Records for the greatest number of simultaneous checkers games. Something very exciting for our staff and students to be involved in.

A letter has gone home with students about the traffic in front of the school during pick up and drop off times. Hamilton Police have informed the school that they are planning on being a presence in the coming weeks to help remind all drivers to follow the posted traffic and parking rules.

Friday March 1 is a PA Day and there is no school for students. Staff will be focusing on work in three main areas: early reading, progress in math, and positive school climate. March Break is the week of March 11-15, there is no school that week.

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
