Principal Update Feb 1

Hello,

It is the end of a cold, cold week! Unfortunately the Cold Weather Warning meant that it was indoor recess; I think both students and staff are looking forward to getting back outside as weather warms. It is important that students come dressed in clothing appropriate for cold weather, bundle up in hats, mitts, boots, and other cold weather gear.

This week we had Scientist in Schools, gr 1 intramural gym activities run by our senior students, and the Kiwanis Basketball tournament.

Next week a meeting for Indoor Track & Field will be taking place and our grade 8 students will be bringing home option sheets from Ancaster High School.

On Wed Feb 6th, we will be holding our second required Lock Down drill. This drill is run in cooperation with Hamilton Police Services. Over the course of the year, we run a variety of drills so students and staff are aware of situations such as fire drills, Hold & Secure, Lockdown, and evacuations. Parents are welcome to find out more information on these protocols at https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/secondary/supports/safe-schools/secure-schools/

On Monday Feb 4th, Kindergarten registration opens. Families can check  https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/kindergarten/  for further information. The information is available both online and at the school office.

As in past years, Ancaster Meadow has be designated as closed to Out if Catchment students for the 2019-2020 school year. The school cannot register students from outside our designated catchment area. This also means that families that move over the coming months need to register at the school in their new neighbourhood for September

The HWDSB has released a draft school year calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. Public feedback can be given at https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/about/public-consultation/

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
