Principal Update Nov 23

Hello,

Classes at Ancaster Meadow have been busy with some field trips. Some classes went to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and Iroquois Kanata Village this week and Ireland House next week. Field trips require a huge amount of planning and paperwork behind the scenes for teachers, I want to thank staff for this work as it provides a number of amazing learning opportunities for our students.

The payment for almost all trips must be through School Cash Online. Parents can contact the office staff if you need assistance accessing this. Online payment will be the primary method for most class trips and additional school costs.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be running next week. This is an exciting time for many students and a great time to promote reading as an activity. For students in grade 1-3 , Razz Kids is an online reading program that is available for our students. Usernames and passwords have been given to students to take home. Please contact your child’s teacher if you want to have further information about this program.

Moving into December, some important dates are the Dec 7th PA Day (no school for students and the annual Home & School Holiday Bizarre will be Fri Dec 14th.

I have posted a separate message to the website regarding safety in the parking lot. A printed letter went home with students today and is also posted to the website. Please take a moment to review this information. It is a difficult situation and the priority is student safety.

With the start of some real winter weather, a reminder that students go outside on most days. Students should have appropriate winter clothing (mitts, hats, boots, etc.). Cold weather conditions are monitored and students may be kept inside when the City of Hamilton declares a cold weather alert. HWDSB policies on cold weather can be found at Severe Weather Cancellations https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/about/severe-weather/#tabs-111 and Snow Clearing https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/about/severe-weather/#tabs-112

Have a great long weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
