Principal Update Nov 9

Hello,

This week ended with our Remembrance Day ceremonies. Separate assemblies were held for our K-3 students and gr 4-8 students. Ancaster Meadow remembers and pays tribute to our veterans. Lest We Forget.

We also had our junior students participate in a swim at McMaster today. Our Primary Choir has also started practices this week. These are just two of the many clubs, teams, and activities that run at Ancaster Meadow. Students are always encouraged to get involved.

Wed Nov 14th is the Day in the Life for Ancaster High. This is an event where our grade 8 students attend a fun activity day to become more aware of what Ancaster High has to offer. Thurs Nov 15th is a bus safety presentation. On Fri Nov 16 we have Intermediate band students attending a special band event at Glendale High School.

For students in grade 1-3 , Razz Kids is an online reading program that is available for our students. Usernames and passwords have been given to students to take home. Please contact your child’s teacher if you want to have further information about this program.

Our Home & School Association is organizing a fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings. Come out for dinner between 4:30 – 8:30pm on Wed Nov 14th and a portion of receipts will go to help students at Ancaster Meadow. Our next School Council and Home & School meeting is Tues Nov 20th starting at 6:30pm.

The safety of everyone in the building is always our priority. Each year a number of required safety drills must be preformed. Staff review the procedures for these drills at the beginning of the year and drills are preformed throughout the school year. We have completed three fire drills and a Hold & Secure drill. We will complete other Secure School drills throughout the year including, Lockdown, Bomb Threat, and evacuation. Further details can be found in the HWDSB Secure Schools pamphlet https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Secure-Schools-Lockdown.pdf

HWDSB posted a message on school websites this week about severe weather closures. I encourage all families to review this before winter approaches Reminder about Severe Weather Cancellations at HWDSB We are ending the week with some snow so it is not too early to be aware of this information.

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
