Principal Update Sept 28

This week ended with a day full of activities. Class 4A took a leadership role in the school recognizing the nation-wide Orange Shirt day that honours the legacy of the residential school system in Canada. It is great to see student leadership in these events. Students also participated in the annual Terry Fox Cancer Awareness run.

Today a letter went home with students outlining the necessary changes in our class structures due to the school board-wide reorganization.  I recognize it is not always an easy process but schools are sometimes required to make these changes. A copy of the letter is attached at the bottom of this message.  A lot of thought went into implementing the changes in the best way possible for students.

This week the school was also providing students who qualify for bussing tags identifying their route. Only students with a tag may ride the bus. The criteria for bus eligibility is set by the school board. Families who would like consideration for a possible seat on an existing bus may fill out a courtesy transportation request. These request will be considered in October but are dependent on seats being available on the bus route; not all requests can be met.

Our Meet the Teacher night is Thursday Oct 4th from 5-7pm. Families are encouraged to come tour the school and meet our staff. Our Home & School Association is hosting a BBQ: hamburgers $3, hotdogs $2, pizza $2, and drinks $1. I look forward to seeing lots of families that night.

It seems time for another reminder to please help keep students safe at pick up and drop off time. Families are encouraged to arrange drop off and pick up off school property; older students are encourage to walk or ride bikes. School buses have priority in the parking lot. Drivers must stay with their vehicles at all times. Please be aware of stopping by the entrance and exit blocking access to the lot. Thank you for your cooperation.
