Principal Update – June 1

Hello,

I can’t believe it is already the start of June. It is a busy time for schools and there is a lot happening around Ancaster Meadow.

This week we have finished EQAO testing for students in grade 3 and 6. Our grade 7 and 8 students had a very successful overnight trip to Muskoka Woods camp. A huge thank you to our teachers who organize and supervise these trips. All field trips require a lot of work but the overnight trips require a special dedication. We are lucky to have staff willing to offer such opportunities.

Next Friday, June 8th is a PA Day. There is no school for students. This PA Day is focused on report card preparation. There is no school for students that day.

A message was posted to our website yesterday regarding the needs for volunteers for our Home & School Spring Fling event. The post had a separate volunteer form that you can fill out and return by June 6th.

Our class 7/8 was the winner of the Hamilton Spectator news trivia contest. Our grade 5/6 class is organizing a student election event to correspond with the provincial election. On Monday and Tuesday, Ancaster Meadow is hosting a our annual soccer tournaments, the school and fields will be full of visiting students.  On Wednesday June 6th, some of our students will be participating in the HWDSB Special Olympics event. We will also have our grade 7 students going to Mohawk College to learn about apprenticeship and college pathways.

On Thursday June 7th, the school will be a polling station for the provincial election. There is a procedure with Elections Ontario to operate polling stations and still operate with our Safe Schools requirement. If you are a voter in our area, you will need to bring your voter card to the school.

If you have any school library books at home, all books need to be returned by June 14th.

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
