Principal update May 11

Hello,

It was a great week at Ancaster Meadow. Music Monday kicked things off in style on Monday morning with our schools participation in this nation-wide program. Our very first Ti-Cat flag football session was cancelled only three weeks ago due to snow; we have since sent two bus loads of students to participate in this opportunity at Tim Horton’s Field, both trips in amazing sun. We also had a number of students successfully participate in an indoor Track and Field meet. There is always a lot going on at Ancaster Meadow.

You may have seen one of our student’s artwork in The Hamilton Spectator this week as part of the article on the HWDSB We Help campaign launch. We have several students with artwork on display at the Education Centre office. There is also new student artwork on display in the Main Office. We have some very talented students.

Next week one of our students has been selected to be the Hamilton Police Services Deputy Chief for a Day. It is fantastic to see our students recognized for these events.

Building on their Music Monday performance, our students will be participating in Choir Fest on May 15th. The choirs will also be performing at our school Open House on May 17th. The Open House will be from 5-7pm. The Scholastic Book Fair will be running from May 16-18, there will be chances for individual classes to tour. It will also be open during the Open House.

For students in grade 3 and 6, more detailed letters about EQAO testing went home this week. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher with any questions.

A couple of messages from our Home & School Association: The first message is that the annual Spring Fling will be Friday June 15th from 4:3- 7:30pm. The second message is specific to grade 8 families, there will be no bus from Ancaster Meadow to the dinner event at Marquis Gardens. Families are responsible for transportation between events.

Our school also participated in a survey of traffic patterns around the school with the City of Hamilton. The goal is to make recommendations to help create safe road conditions to encourage students to walk and bike to school. As part of an active lifestyle it is always encouraged to have students walk or bike to school. Parents are asked to help limit the traffic in our parking lot by doing any pick up or drop offs on neighbouring streets. Please remember that school buses have priority in the parking lot.

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
