Principal Update May 4

Hello,

May the 4th be with you – Sorry I couldn’t resist, I’m a huge Star Wars fan. This week ended with a presentation from the Live Different organization. Our students in grade 6, 7, 8 heard stories from youth leaders about living a life of positivity and compassion. It is important to mention that this presentation was organized by some of our grade 8 students who wrote a submission for a Student Speak Up grant. It is great to students taking on such leadership opportunities. Unfortunately the weather required us to modify the Wellness Walk that was part of this event; some classes did participate but it was not run as a school-wide event.

We will also be starting next week with another great event. On May 7th, at 9:30 am, there will be an approximately 30 minute assembly for the entire school, and parents, to showcase the music program and Ancaster Meadow performance groups as part of Music Monday (https://www.musicmonday.ca/), a Canada wide celebration of music in our schools, and music as an essential part of the core curriculum. The following groups will be performing: The Primary Choir (grade 1-3), The Junior Choir (grade 4-6), The Beginner Band (grade 5-6), the Senior Concert Band (grade 7-8), and some soloists. Parents are welcome but due to fire restrictions  there is limited space and seating.

We had students participate in the last Caribou math contest of the year earlier in the week. We have a number of junior and intermediate grade students challenge themselves in participating in this series of math challenges. We also had students go to McMaster University for Let’s Talk Science. Ancaster Meadow has a number of great extra programs that focus on math and science throughout the year, students are encouraged to take advantage of this

Families are reminded of our Open House on Thursday May 17th from 5-7pm. It is an opportunity to showcase many of the great things happening in our school. Our music program will also be having a performance near the end of that night. There will not be a food option for this event.

Our Kindergarten and grade 1 orientation session will be on Thursday May 24th from 4:30 – 6:00pm. This is a valuable session for all families with students in Kindergarten or moving into grade 1 for next year.

There are a lot of events on at this time of year. Events that have a school-wide focus are posted on the school website, events that are class-based are communicated by individual teachers either through class blogs or newsletters. Our daily announcements also highlight a number of events and are live on the website.

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
