Principal Update – Jan 25

Hello,

It’s amazing that we are already at the end of January, 2018 seems to be moving quickly!

A reminder this is a short week for students. Tomorrow, Friday January 26th, is a PA Day and there is no school for students.  Staff will primarily be focused on report card preparation. Report card distribution day for grades 1-8 will be Feb 13th, Kindergarten Communication of Learning reports will be sent home on Feb 16th.

This past week students had a presentation about school bus safety. We have also had a second week of much improved bus service. Now that regular drivers are in place, families should double-check the original stop times. Students should be at the bus stop 5 minutes before the scheduled time. All delays greater than 10 minutes should be posted to www.hamiltonschoolbus.ca it has been much more accurate lately.

Supervision of the playground is only for 15 minutes before and after school. The morning staff supervision starts at 8:45am. Students should not be dropped off before then. If early drop off is needed, parents need to register for the before and after care with Umbrella Daycare.

Ancaster Meadow has had some great STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) activities going on this year. Continuing those efforts, McMaster Child and Youth University is presenting to a number of classes over regarding a variety of science and other topics over the coming weeks. Our Robotics club has moved from nutrition break to after school to provide more time to prepare for the board-level competition. Our grade 1 classes had a successful Scientist in the Classroom event this past week. We have also arranged for presentations from the McMaster Computer Science department for a variety of junior and intermediate math classes (Feb 20). We also are hosting a science fair on Tuesday February 6th. Student will tour the fair with classes  during school time; parents are welcome to tour from 3:20 – 4:00 pm if interested.

In athletics, basketball has started and has a number of teams competing. Our ski trip is Feb 16th.

The HWDSB has launched the Kindergarten registration process https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/kindergarten/ The HWDSB website has detailed information about Kindergarten and the registration process. Please contact the Main Office for more details..
