Principal’s Message – First Week

I have had a great first week at Ancaster Meadow. I hope all students have enjoyed it as much as I did. I had the pleasure to be in a lot of classrooms this week and had the opportunity to talk to a lot of students. Despite complaining about having to wake up earlier this week, there was a lot of positive energy about starting school.

Ancaster Meadow is a school with an amazing number of extracurricular activities running for students. Information about these activities is read over the morning announcements and is display on the TV in the front foyer. Parents can also review the announcements on the school website. Try outs for some sports have already started.

Having over 650 students start school successfully takes a lot of hard work and dedication from staff. I would like to thank all our educational and support staff for doing such great work during the first week.

As in past years, families are constantly moving in and out of the school area. The school monitors our enrolment numbers throughout the first few weeks. There is a process across all schools to reorganize teacher staffing and class organization to address any changes in enrolment. There is a potential that classes may need to be reorganized in this process. Any required class changes occur near the end of September and will be communicated to parents at that time.

Some dates to mark on your calendar: Picture Day is Wed Sept 27 and Thurs Sept 28 and Meet the Teacher night is Thursday Oct 5 from 5-7pm. Further details regarding the events will follow.  As the year progresses we will look to make sure that the website calendar is updated with important school event information.

Information went home with students this week about our Athletics Mum Plant Sale. Orders are due to the gym office by next Monday, Sept. 11th and then plant pickup is Thursday, Sept. 14th.

I look forward to meeting parents at our School Council and Home and School meetings. The first meeting will be Tues Sept 19 at 6:30pm. Elections for School Council positions will be held at the first meeting. New parents are always welcome to come out and attend these meetings.

Help keep students safe. During pick up and drop off times the car park can become a dangerous place. The priority is student safety. It is important that the front of the school is kept clear as a bus lane- it is not a pick up and drop off area. Parents can park in open spaces or on the side streets. We have also had issues with people double parking and blocking parents and staff cars. Please park in only designated space.

It was a great start to the year! Enjoy the weekend.
