P.I.P Completion Keeps SWO Students Active Outdoors!

“Access to active play in nature and outdoors—with its risks—is essential for healthy child development. We recommend increasing children’s opportunities for self-directed play outdoors in all settings; at home, at school, in child care, the community and nature.”  Participaction Position Statement on Outdoor Play.

The Playground Inquiry Project (P.I.P) has provided students with an authentic learning experience that has provided the school with an extension of the beautiful surroundings of the Dundas Valley.  These new areas and activities are allowing students to create, communicate and collaborate in different ways while enjoying the beautiful natural setting that surrounds Sir William Osler.   Thanks to all the students, staff and community partners who made this project plausible.

A Special Thanks to the students in grade 7 and 8 last year under the guidance of the inquiry teacher – Dan Siertsema as well as the Wismer Foundation, School Council, Bob Avery from the HWDSB Facilities Dept. and Jeff Belko from Belko Construction.  Without the time, energy and resources afforded by these groups this project would have never come to fruition.
