Track and Field – Friday, June 03

On Friday, June 3 (raindate Monday, June 6 ), all of our grades 3 to 8 students will be participating in a school wide Track and Field Day at the Dundas Valley track. The large white Athletic Permission form that you filled out at the beginning of the year will cover this event.  If there are any changes, additional medical information or you would like to look over the form, please contact your child’s Homeroom Teacher.

Participation is the emphasis of the meet. All students are expected to attend the meet and participate to the best of their ability as part of their Physical Education mark. Students who place in the top 2 will qualify to represent Sir William Osler School at the HWDSB Track and Field meet on Monday, June 13 for Grades 6-8, Thursday June 23 for Grades 3-5 at the Mohawk Sports Field on the corner of Upper Kenilworth and Mohawk Road East.

Following attendance, classes will be walking to the Dundas Valley track, with teacher supervision, to participate in the Track and Field events.   The furthest running event on the day of the meet is one lap of the track (400m).  As well, students will have a choice to participate in competitive or less competitive heats in the running events.  Students will rotate through every event with their classmates and teacher.

There will be at least two different breaks throughout the day where students can rest, have something to eat or use the bathroom.  Although there will be a BBQ to purchase food and a concession stand for drinks run by the Dundas Valley Athletics, we strongly encourage students to also bring their own healthy foods and lots of water in labeled re-usable containers. Please remember to pack nut free products only.  Students should wear athletic clothing, running shoes, hat, sunblock, sunglasses and a smile.

Please join us if you are able to cheer on our participants or if you would like to volunteer for this event (contact Mr. Dougherty at 905-628-1588 ext. 229).  Our meet starts at 9:45 a.m. and will continue throughout the day until approximately 2:30 p.m.  Students will be returning to the school at the end of the meet in time for regular dismissal.

Thank you for your support.
