Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is deeply saddened by the tragic incident in Toronto involving a van and pedestrians on April 23. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected.


Consolidation of Elizabeth Bagshaw and Sir Wilfrid Laurier

On June 19, 2017 the Ministry of Education announced funding to build a new 682 pupil place, Kindergarten to Grade 8 elementary school on the grounds of Glen Brae School. This new school will accommodate students from Glen Brae, Glen Echo, Sir Isaac Brock, Elizabeth Bagshaw and Sir Wilfrid Laurier.

City Letter Regarding Lyme Disease

The Hamilton Medical Officer of Health has identified an estimated Lyme disease risk area in the City of Hamilton. Lyme disease is an illness caused by the bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi.
This bacteria is passed onto to people and pets through the bite of a blacklegged tick (also called a deer tick) that can also carry the bacteria. Please see the letter below with more details about Lyme disease.

HWDSB Offers Math Supports to Parents

HWDSB has created online Math resources designed to help parents understand what their children are learning, how they are learning it, and why it is important for them to learn this way.

The resources, found at www.hwdsb.on.ca/mathhelp, offer parents the ability to support their child at home. The online resources include:

Highlights of student learning in Math for grades 1-8 through the Ontario Curriculum
Examples of Math lessons in a classroom to share with parents
Videos to watch students talk about why they are learning Math this way
Links to supports that will help parents help their child at home
An explanation of HWDSB’s Renewed Math Strategy

Summer Reach Ahead for Grade 8 Students

If your child will be starting Grade 9 in September 2018 and is interested in taking a credit course this summer, our Reach Ahead summer programs are an excellent option to keep your child learning this summer. Reach Ahead courses are the only credit courses available through HWDSB to students transitioning from Grade 8 into Grade 9.

Classes start on July 5th and finish on July 27th, 2018 and run Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:07 p.m.

Reach Ahead courses are available at convenient locations both downtown and on the Hamilton Mountain.

    Watch: Just One Wish Kindness Awards
    The third annual Just One Wish Kindness Awards were held on July 1, 2017 in Gage Park during the It's Your Festival celebrations for Canada's 150th birthday. Organizers honoured 151 children (150 for Canada's birthday and one for good luck), age 4 to 18, from across HWDSB for their kindness. These children exemplify what is means to be Canadian and what Canada is all about. Congratulations to all!
