Principal Update May 18

Hello,

The May long weekend is often referred to as the unofficial start to summer. At school, it definitely signals a shift into end of year events and tasks. Though year end events are starting to happen, there is still a lot of learning left in the classroom.

Our music program continues a busy couple of weeks with their participation in the HWDSB Choir Fest. It was also great to see the Music Monday celebration on the front page of the Ancaster News this week. I would like to thank Mr. Mitchison and Mrs Miya for their dedication to our music and choir program.

A number of other activities have been occurring and it can be difficult to keep up.  Our sport teams have been competing in flag football, soccer, indoor track and field, water polo, and swimming.  Our grade 7 students have also had the opportunity to take part in a cooking program this week and will have the opportunity to complete a woodworking project next week.

On Thursday we hosted a successful open house. It was great to see the number of families who came out to view the great work that has been happening in classrooms throughout the year. Families are reminded that our Home & School Association is hosting the annual Spring Fling on Friday June 15th. There are a huge number of activities being planned to entertain students and families.

For families with students entering Kindergarten or transitioning to grade 1, an information session will be held on Thurs May 24th. The information session for Kindergarten will be 4:30pm and the grade 1 session will be 5:00pm. Parents are welcome to bring children. There will also be a chance to tour the classroom spaces.

The web site will also have a separate posting with a letter regarding the opportunity for parental input in the class building process for next year. Please see that letter for further information.

Summer Fraction/Gym Camp at Ancaster Meadow School from July 9 to July 13, 2018. This camp will offer a Comprehensive fraction program with a gym component. The camp will run from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm each day. Further information along with registration can be found at:

www.hwdsb.on.ca/cce/summer-non-credit

There is no cost for this program and is open to students enrolled in grades 6 through 8.

The HWDSB also welcomes parent input into a variety of planning processes. The HWDSB Parent Survey can be found at https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/blog/hwdsb-launches-parent-voice-survey-to-gather-input-for-improvement/

The HWDSB is also switching the program that handles the automated phone call system. I encourage parents to read the separate website posting about this change.

I hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend.
