Principal’s update – Oct 20th

What a fantastic week of wonderful weather. We took advantage of the weather to run one of our required fire drills. All schools are required to run a number of different drills throughout the school year to be prepared in the event of an emergency. At the bottom of this message is a graphic that details the variety of emergency procedures that schools must be prepared for.  In the coming week we will be coordinating with our Hamilton Police Liaison Officer to run our required Lockdown drill.

We have had a few staffing changes this month. Ms. Bucciacchio has taken a job as a Reading Specialist for the school board. Mr. Toisi is our new teacher for 5A. Ms. Julia is also joining us for class 1C.

Our sports teams were some of the first extra-curricular activities to start this year but Ancaster Meadow has some amazing activities in different areas. Our Robotics club is meeting most Tuesday and Thursdays during nutrition break. Mathstronaut’s STEAM program is being organized for after school. We also had students complete the Caribou math contest and the Primary choir has begun.

There are many different ways students can become involved in the school. Students can listen to the daily announcements for opportunities and the announcements are also repeating on the school website so that parents can review them with students at home if they are interested.

Our Student Council is still running Socktober. Please donate new socks for local shelters. There is a contest for the class that brings in the most pairs. The Student Council is also running a Halloween dance for students in grades 6, 7, 8. Halloween plans for other grades will be communicated through agendas and class newsletters.

Parent-Teacher interviews are being held the evening of Thursday Nov 2 and during the school day on Friday Nov 3. Parents should contact teachers directly to arrange interview times. Homeroom teachers can help coordinate an interview time with a rotary subject teacher if necessary. If you are having difficulty contacting a teacher, please call the Main Office.

Our Lost and Found area continues to grow. If you are missing clothing or other items it is worthwhile to check the Lost and Found area located outside the gym. The clothing is periodically collected and donated.

Have a great weekend.
