Principal update – Sept 29

Hello,

It is hard to believe that we are at the end of September already. I have truly enjoyed my first month at Ancaster Meadow. It is a wonderful school with amazing students and staff.

As we move into a new month, “Socktober” season starts at Ancaster Meadow. This is a clothing drive that collects socks (only new) for local homeless shelters . This is the first of many events organized by our Student Council this year. In addition to our sock drive, students at Ancaster Meadow are busy fundraising for the Terry Fox run on Fri Oct 6th. Our fundraising goal is an ambitious $5 000.

A reminder that the Meet the Teacher night will be Thurs Oct 5th from 5-7pm. Our Home & School Association has arranged for Turtle Jacks to run a BBQ (hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers), Domino’s pizza will also be available. Teachers will be in their classrooms showcasing their programs for the year. Individual parent-teacher interviews will be arranged Nov 2nd and 3rd with specific information coming at later dates.

Our Home & School Association has been busy! The last day for pizza orders in Mon Oct 2nd. Orders must be made online and no late orders can be accepted. This is huge undertaking and we thank our parent volunteers for their hard work.

This Friday, staff at Ancaster Meadow wore orange in recognition of a national day of remembrance regarding Residential Schools. Some individual class teachers  talked to their classes about the history of the Residential School System and the lasting impact on the Indigenous communities in this country. Ancaster Meadow staff will be learning about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommendations and the role that schools play in the reconciliation process this year. Recognizing the importance of the relationship with the local Indigenous communities is an important component of the diversity at Ancaster Meadow.

I am please to announce that Mathstronauts will be coming to Ancaster Meadow. This program is run by McMaster students and focuses on  Math, Science and Engineering. Parent registration and information will be  at Meet the Teacher.

Busing is still a frustration for some families, parents are encouraged to check hamiltonschoolbus.ca for information regarding delays. Parents concerned about delays should contact the Hamilton Wentworth Student Transportation Service at 905- 523-2318. Some bus routes have had to be rerouted to address capacity issues, letters have gone home to families that have route changes. Due to the late route changes curtesy busing applications that are on file will be looked at next week.

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
