Nutrition Break at AMC

We were very excited that that AMC community is growing., With the addition of our grade 3-4  and expanded FDK class,. we are experiencing  increased pressure on the school at nutrition break. We are having difficulty finding spaces for our students in the four portables to eat.  These classes were divided amongst other classrooms causing congestion in these rooms, and limiting quiet spaces in the school for those who may need one.

We found that having half of the school eat, while the other half goes outside was a common trend. It allows all students to have a classroom space to eat in, while having the added benefit of decreasing the amount of students outside at recess time, more access to the soccer field, creative playground and basketball equipment.

We currently are trying this solution with students on the 3rd floor and from the portables eating for the first 20 minutes of break, then going outside. Students on the 1stnd 2nd floor play outside first, and then come into eat. Once the bell rings they are already in the room ready to learn.
