Happy New Year to those in the Winona community celebrating the Lunar New Year.

Kindergarten Registration – September 2023 Kindergarten registration is around the corner for those turning four in 2023.  More information and details will be coming by next week, but families are welcome to get a jump start by visiting the HWDSB Kindergarten web page.  Kindergarten | Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (hwdsb.on.ca).

Bell Let’s Talk Day -Bell Let’s Talk Day is January 25 and Winona will be joining in to help create positive change for mental health.  Over the past week, we have challenged our students to think about ways they can improve their own mental health, help their peers and remove some of the stigmas around mental health challenges.  Our Grade 3-8 students have been able to submit answers and suggestions into the kindness box for some prizes.  It is a small step but one that has engaged our students in good discussion and helped to create positive change.

Extended Absences – It is expected that students attend school during scheduled school days and take holidays according to the school year calendar. We understand that there may be times when family plans result in students being taken out of school for an extended absence. During these times, teachers are not able to replicate class learning and assess missed school work. Parents, if they choose to engage their children in learning during a trip, can provide their own programming. Parents are asked to inform the school of their child’s absence and complete the Temporary Excusal from School form if the absence extends beyond 15 school days.

Coping Strategies and Managing Stress – CMHA online event – January 25 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. – hwdsb.info/TAMI-Jan25
