Kindergarten Registration –  We are excited to announce that Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year opens Monday, February 2, 2026. Children who turn 4 in 2026 are eligible to register for the September 2026 Kindergarten program.  Families can visit Kindergarten Kindergarten | Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board to learn how to register and view some additional information regarding the Kindergarten program, registering children who require specialized services and general information about readiness for school.

Out of Catchment – As Kindergarten registration approaches, we would like to share an important reminder about the HWDSB Out‑of‑Catchment policy. All students must attend their home school,the school that serves the address where they live. At this time, Winona Elementary is closed to Out‑of‑Catchment students, which means we are not accepting applications from families who live outside our designated boundary. Schools that are closed to Out‑of‑Catchment do not generate a waitlist.

If your family has moved during the school year, please use HWDSB’s Find Your School tool to confirm your current catchment‑area school. Students who are already attending Winona and move during the 2025–2026 school year can remain with us until June 2026. However, they must register at their new in‑catchment school for September 2026.

Winona Recipe Book – Do you have a favourite family recipe? A dish that appears at every celebration? A quick weeknight favourite? A traditional classic?
School Council has been working on a Winona Recipe Book project, and we hope it will be a fun community initiative. Families are invited to send in their favourite recipes along with a short memory or story about why the dish is special to them. The plan is to publish the collection as a school fundraiser.

With Family Literacy Day coming up on January 27 and this year’s theme being “Make mealtime family learning time”, we are using the occasion to spark excitement and encourage recipe submissions.

Families can submit their recipes in several ways.
