Winona Recipe Book – Do you have a favourite family recipe? A dish that appears at every celebration? A quick weeknight favourite? A traditional classic?
School Council has been working on a Winona Recipe Book project, and we hope it will be a fun community initiative. Families are invited to send in their favourite recipes along with a short memory or story about why the dish is special to them. The plan is to publish the collection as a school fundraiser.

With Family Literacy Day coming up on January 27 and this year’s theme being “Make mealtime family learning time”, we are using the occasion to spark excitement and encourage recipe submissions.  Families can submit their recipes in several ways.

Cold Weather at School – With colder weather upon us, we want to share the HWDSB cold-weather practices and guidelines. Principals make decisions about outdoor recess based on HWDSB and City of Hamilton guidelines. Students will remain indoors when temperatures reach -15°C or colder, or -20°C with wind chill, as recommended.

Outdoor time is an important part of the school day. Fresh air, physical activity, and unstructured play all support children’s well‑being. To enjoy this time safely throughout the winter months, students need to come to school dressed for the weather. Please ensure your child is prepared for winter conditions by wearing boots, mittens or gloves, a hat, and a warm coat. Packing extra mittens, socks, or other warm items is also helpful in case clothing becomes wet during the day. We have noticed that our Grade 6–8 students are often less prepared for outdoor breaks, which is common for pre‑teens and teens. A reminder about proper winter wear can go a long way in helping them stay comfortable and safe outdoors.
