Meet the Staff – On Tuesday, October 7, the staff at Winona welcome families for school and classroom visits, from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm.  As our students bring their families through our school, most staff will be present for introductions and to meet families.  For students who are moving to a new classroom due to reorganization, this will be a great opportunity to meet your child’s new educator and classroom.  Additionally, the School Council will be selling pizza, both pre-order and individual slices.

Photo Day – Photo Day is coming to Winona this week to Winona.  Photo Day will take place on October 7 (K-3) and October 8 (4-8).   Photos will be taken using a green screen so remember to dress your child in any colour other than green. Proofs should arrive in about 2 weeks. For those who are absent, a retake day will be available.

Halloween at Winona – Friday, October 31 is Halloween. On this day, students will have the option to wear a costume to school. If your child chooses to wear a costume, please ensure they arrive already dressed. A “school costume” should be simple and practical, allowing participation in all daily activities such as recess, physical education, and music. We suggest leaving extra accessories that could get lost or broken, at home for evening celebrations. To assist with planning, discuss with your child the difference between their school costume and their special home costume. Please be mindful of cultural appropriation, offensive or insensitive costumes, weapons, masks that might obstruct vision, and inappropriate images. Each educator is aware of their students’ allergy and dietary needs and will offer guidance on including special treats. We recognize that not all families in our school community celebrate Halloween. Our goal is to foster an inclusive environment where learning and routines proceed smoothly for all students.

Attention Kinder Families – We are excited to share that we will be having a special visitor from Winona Gardens who will be delivering pumpkins to all of the kindergarten students on Thursday October 16th! This wonderful experience will help extend our exploration and learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin and the signs of fall.  To support this activity, we kindly ask for a $1.00 contribution per student. You may send in a loonie with your child or pay conveniently through School Cash Online (available from Friday October 3rd until Friday October 17th).
