Reorganization of Classrooms – Each fall, HWDSB reviews elementary student enrolment in schools, and must reorganize staffing if actual enrollment differs from spring projections. It is normal for student enrollment to fluctuate a little. This year, we have experienced an overall decline in enrollment at Winona. Due to the decline, some reorganization will be required.  Over the next week, direct communication will be made with impacted families. Changes in classroom assignments will begin effective, Thursday, October 3.

Outdoor Equipment Donations – Our students have several opportunities to enjoy outdoor play each day (i.e. recess and DPA). To support our students’ outdoor play, we are looking for equipment donations that can be made to our school. Items such as skipping ropes (individual and long), soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, tennis balls etc. will help to provide some additional games and play for our students.  Items can be dropped off in the office or to individual classrooms.  Thank you in advance.

Pediculosis (Head Lice) – Although it is still September, unfortunately several cases of head lice (pediculosis) have been found in our school.  To help stop the spread of lice among our students, please check your child’s hair and scalp for lice and eggs regularly.  If you discover head lice or nits, it is important to apply treatment and remove nits to prevent spreading to others. Treatment products will kill the lice, but not all nits, therefore nits must be removed by hand.  Please also note that treatment for head lice is covered by OHIP+ for children and youth under 25. To obtain covered products visit your family doctor or walk-in clinic for a prescription.

Public Health does not require reporting of a head lice infestation. However, if you do find that your child has head lice, please inform the school. Additional information can be obtained from the Caring for Kids website at https://caringforkids.cps.ca/handouts/health-conditions-and-treatments/head_lice.

Lockers – We ask that all students in Grade 5-8 have a lock on their locker as a deterrent for others to open them.  For students that struggle with traditional dial combination locks, there are many other options today.  We do not suggest key locks, as keys can be misplaced or forgotten.
