National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day) – On Friday, September 29, Winona staff and students will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day.  Over the week, our classrooms will be engaged in learning that honours the Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools and work towards educating ourselves about this history.  A family-friendly link is provided for those who would like to learn more about this day and engage in at-home discussions. Reorganization of Classrooms – Due to growth in the Winona community, there will be some reorganization required at our school to accommodate the influx of new students and reduce class size.  Direct communication with impacted families at Winona will be made by Monday, October 2, with the new classroom assignments beginning Friday, October 6.

Terry Fox Run – Our annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the school. We have set a fundraising goal for this year and planned some fun activities if team Winona can reach them. If you would like to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation to help with cancer research, please use this link to go directly to Winona School’s fundraising page. https://schools.terryfox.ca/WinonaPSWinona

Hamilton Public Library Cards for Winona Students – Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) has partnered with Hamilton Public Library (HPL) to simplify the library card registration process for students.  Winona families can visit the Parent Portal to opt-in and, with one simple “click,” consent to HWDSB sharing information with HPL to get a public library card for elementary students. If you consent, your child’s library card will be mailed to your home address, FREE of charge.  The deadline to opt-in via Parent Portal is Friday, September 29 at 11:59 p.m. This opportunity is only available to new HPL members. Students with existing library cards do not need to opt into the offer. Click here to learn more about library cards from HPL.
