A Note from Mr. Azzopardi

Hello Westwood Families!  As you may know, on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, I began my journey as your new Principal of Westwood.  I look forward to working with all of our students and supporting every family during my time here at the school.  I firmly believe that our school should be a place where all students feel safe, supported and accepted, and it is through my leadership that I will strive to ensure that this continues to happen here at Westwood.  If you have any questions, concerns, comments or feedback, please feel free to reach out at any time.

I also want to take this time to thank all of our staff and students who have greeted me with smiles and made me instantly feel a part of the Westwood family.  I look forward to our journey together.

Outdoor Winter Learning

Just a reminder that classes are still going outside for winter learning as well as nutrition breaks and may require extra masks, socks and clothing layers in case to ensure intense fun! Thanks for your assistance!

Inclement Weather Cancellations

During severe winter weather, the difficult decision to remain open or to close is always made with the safety and security of our students and staff in mind. Here are some guidelines to remember:

• A school cancellation is a tough decision and some families may disagree with HWDSB’s call. Families can always make the choice they feel is best when it comes to sending their child to school.

Cold Weather Alerts

HWDSB follows the city of Hamilton recommendation that individuals stay inside when the temperature is at or below -15 degrees Celsius or -20 degrees Celsius with the windchill.

Winter Olympic Playday

Hopefully we might get one more dumping of snow which will make it perfect for our Winter Olympic Playday! Classes will take part in outdoor and indoor events that will celebrate the Beijing 2022 Olympics. The event is scheduled for early February (provided we have snow and the temperature cooperates). Looking forward to celebrating Beijing 2022!

Photo Re-take Day

Our school has scheduled photo re-take day on February 28th.  Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you are interested in having your child(ren) photo taken again.

Kindergarten Registration for 2022

Kindergarten registration For September 2022 will begin February 7, 2022. If you know people in the community with children, please let them know. To register, you must bring a birth certificate, immigration papers (If born outside of Canada), Immunization record and proof of address. We hope to see you and your children soon.
