School Council Elections and Meeting – Wed. Sept. 20, 2023

We invite our parents/guardians to our first school council meeting of 2023-2024 on Wed. Sept. 20 at 6:30 pm held in room 208 at Tiffany Hills School.

We invite any parent/guardian, who attended school council in previous years, to nominate or self-nominate for one of the 3 roles using the attached nomination form. Feel free to also complete a nomination if you have not previously joined the SC Committee in past years. Should we not have nominees from prior years we will vote new members. Should you not be interested in holding one of the three positions you may attend the meetings monthly and have a voting right. We welcome all new and returning parents and guardians as your voice matters in creating a safe and academic environment for all students. Please complete this section at the top of the nomination form and return it with your child’s teacher by Sept. 15th.

On Wed. Sept. 20, will hold an election for the following positions and follow through with a meeting shortly after.

Role of a School Council

School councils have a legislated role at their schools and are there to ensure the best possible education for students. Our school councils are comprised of democratically elected representatives of our parent community.

Together, they:

• focus on student learning and the best interest of all students,
• provide a forum through which parents and other members of school communities can contribute to improving student achievement and school performance,
• make recommendations to the school principal and the Board on any matter they see impacting accountability and academic excellence and serve as a communication and information channel between the school and community
