Community Updates

School Parking Lot

Vehicle congestion continues to be a concern for student safety, bus traffic control, and emergency responders in our parking lot during entry and dismissal times.

Starting May 6, the school parking lot will be closed for vehicle access during the times of 8:30AM – 9:00AM and 3:00PM – 3:25PM.  Please do not park in the staff parking area prior to 8:30AM.

Pylons will be placed in front of the main entrance during these times and staff will remind cars to park on adjacent streets and walk their child into the school grounds.

Many of our families live within the catchment for walking, rolling, biking to school.  Some of our families are eligible for busing outside of this catchment.

Travel To and From School

  • Families requiring to drive will need to park vehicles on adjacent streets following bylaw
  • Walk, Roll, Bike to school
  • Students assigned to a bus should utilize the bus service

Your understanding and support for student safety is appreciated.

HWDSBe Kind Initiative

Sir Wilfrid Laurier is excited to host a fundraiser during the week of May 13th– 17th to support the HWDSBe KIND campaign!

The theme of Sir Wilfrid Laurier’s fundraiser is promoting kindness by improving school mental and physical health! We are excited to be selling kindness stickers, popcorn, running kindness activities and raising money for DPA equipment! To learn more about our school’s fundraiser and how you can donate, click here to visit our website

Background

Launched by Hamilton Foundation for Student Success (HFSS), HWDSBe KIND aims to raise funds for our school and HFSS Student Support Grants, which provide financial assistance to HWDSB students for school-related expenses and basic personal needs.

In addition to supporting a common cause, the fundraiser is an opportunity to provide students with real and practical applications for everyday life that will support the positive physical, emotional and mental health benefits associated with kindness.

How You Can Help

This year HWDSBe KIND will raise fund for Sir Wilfrid Laurier’s classrooms to obtain additional DPA equipment and HFSS’ Student Support Grants so that all students can come to school and participate as equals while there.

Students and families can support through our online donations. We would not be able to provide this same level of care and assistance for students without you, and we sincerely thank you for your kindness and generosity.

We look forward to seeing everyone come together to help support students!

Lockdown Drill

A lockdown is defined by police as the restriction of movement during the time of a potentially serious violent threat or violent incident that would endanger the lives of students and staff.

A lockdown is used when there is a major incident or threat within the school or in relation to the school.  The threat is inside the school, or is on school property.  All movement with the school and into and out of the school is restricted.  Police notify the school when a lockdown has ended. Students have the responsibility to be familiar with the plan and quickly respond to staff directions during a crisis situation.  Students will practice two lockdown drills each school year.

On Wednesday, May 8 students will practice a lockdown drill in their classrooms with their teacher.  The Principal or Vice Principal will announce that the lockdown drill has begun and provide further instructions for students and staff.
