Weekly Update – Jan 11-15, 2021

Ridgemount Families,

A reminder that remote at home learning has been extended until Friday January 22, 20201.  If you called this past week and requested an iPad for your child you will be contacted on Monday, Jan 11 to set up a time on that day to pick up an iPad.

Pease ensure that you contact your child’s teacher if your child requires an iPad for at home learning. You may also contact the school at 905 575 1535 to request a device and we will do our best to get one for you.

Please be sure to have your child or children engage with their teacher daily by logging on for learning at 8:45am sharp each day. Students are expected to attend online, participate and complete assigned tasks. Students not attending or not completing assigned work will be marked absent. Pease ensure that you contact your child’s teacher if your child requires an iPad for at home learning. You may also contact the school at 905 575 1535 to request a device and we will do our best to get one for you.

The Elementary Remote Learning Program, and students already learning remotely, are not impacted by these changes.

The shift to remote learning does not change the school day or school schedules, but for many, it does require connecting in different ways to continue learning.  We are implementing our remote learning plan that involves supports such as device deployment, virtual classroom guidelines, resources for students in special education and much more.

As we prepare for learning in the new year, we want families to understand what to expect.

Full remote school day; educators will provide schedules to families for each day. The full school day will be scheduled with breaks. Teachers will be available to students during their timetables and provide a blend of connected (synchronous) and independent (asynchronous) learning (PPM 164)
Kindergarten Students with Remote Access will engage on a daily basis with the class and teacher – Educators will email a 10-day learning program package for families without access to remote learning; copies will be available for pick up at the school. If you require a copy please call the school to set up a time for pick up.
Grade 1-8 Students with Remote Access – students will engage and participate in a regular day of learning from 8:45am-3:05 pm with lessons, group work, breaks, independent work times and follow their regular timetable with all subjects being covered.  Teachers will contact families without remote learning access to arrange to send assignments that students will be expected to work on and the best way to communicate with your child’s teacher for support when needed. Our Educational Assistants will also be reaching out to support the students that are assigned to them. Please be sure to connect with your child’s teacher and the classroom EA for support to those students.

You can learn more about remote learning preparations at hwdsb.info/remote2021 and please reach out to your child’s school if you have questions.

We know that this period has been one of constant change and adjustment. Thank you for helping us ensure that learning continues across HWDSB.

Have a great week!

Mr. G. Carey – Principal
