Ridgemount Families,

Last week Ridgemount’s Junior and Senior Bands made their first appearance at Bandfest at Sherwood High School.  Students ranging from Grades 5 to 8 participated.  Each week the bands meet to rehearse in preparation for this event.  Adjudicators were thoroughly impressed with the level of maturity and skill level each student displayed.  In June, both bands will be traveling to Canada’s Wonderland to take part in the music festival there.  Stay tuned for more exciting news from our Music Program.  Way to go Ridgemount! A special thanks to Ms. Filipovic for her dedication and hard work leading this amzing team of musicians.  Thank you also to Ms. Clarke and Mme Gagnon and all of the staff that supported our bands.

Congratulations to Olivia and Zehra for representing Ridgemount at the Family of Schools Oral Communication Festival. We are so proud of both students for particpating and demonstrating exceptional skills in oral communication. Well done!

A reminder of our School council meeting tomorrow Monday, April 15, 2019 at 6:30pm in the library. All are welcome and childcare will be provided.

Another reminder that there will be no school this Friday, April 19th as it is Good Friday and Monday, April, April 22nd as it is Easter Monday.

Our caretakers do a fantastic job keeping our school clean, safe and organized for all of us. Please remind your children to be resepctful of our school by doing their part to keep all classrooms, hallways, washrooms and the playground clean and to dispose of all garbage and recycling in the appropriate bins provided.  Thank you.

A reminder to please contact the school office at 905 575-1535 if your child is going to be absent. Leave the full name of your child, the grade that they are in, the teacher’s name and the date/ time that they will be absent for.  Please support us at Ridgemount to avoid teaching disruptions by making sure that all students attend on time and ready to learn each morning. To maximize student learning and to ensure that students cover all curriculum areas for each grade we encourage all students to attend on a regular basis. This allows students to be sure that they have recieved all instruction and can participate in all learning, school-wide and social acitivities. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s attendance please contact the Principal or Vice Principal for support.

Students have been following our Ridgemount Roadrunner Road to Success expectations. Please review these expectations with your children and have them share with you what they are. A reminder that cell phones are not to be used without permission from staff and are not to be used during Nutrition Breaks. Students are to place cell phones in bins in the classrooms provided or keep in lockers or backpacks. Please remind students that they are not to take photos or recordings of others without consulting with staff first.

Ridgemount Road To Success Expectations:
Always keep your hands and feet to yourself
Be where you’re supposed to be
Treat others how you want to be treated
Calm and quiet movement in the hall
Listen to and follow instruction from all adults in the school

Our buses have been arriving at various times and not in the order that they usually arrive so please be sure to remind your children to make their way to their bus lines in the gymnasium as quickly as possible to avoid missing their buses. Announcements are made to gather all students and our staff and Bus Patrol Team do a great job ensuring that our students transition to and from buses. As there are a large number of students that take buses please let your child’s teacher or the office know if you have concerns about your child making their way to the bus on time and we will pair them up with an older bus buddy. Due to the bus driver shortage we continue to expereince delays and we apologize for this inconvenience.

Please also be reminded to follow the signs located around the school regarding parking and school bus loading zones located at the front and east side of the school as well as in the back parking lot. We would like to ensure that safety of all our students and staff and our Bylaw Officers will be monitoring and giving out tickets to those.

We will ask that parents/guardians not enter the parking lot during entry/dismissal as we have had a couple of close calls with accidents and we must allow safe access for our school buses that drop students off in the parking lot. Please drop students off in the desiganted areas on Ronaldshay Street and avoid blocking the entrance/exit to the school parking lot to allow for our buses to enter and depart safely.
