Queen Mary School Christmas dinner serves over 600 staff and students

Not a belly was grumbling all through the hall, at the Royal Canadian Legion, there was enough turkey for all!

During this season of giving, on Monday, December 16, over 600 students and 65 staff members from Queen Mary School were served a Christmas dinner, hosted at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall on Barton Street.

The Queen Mary Student Council reached out to local “celebrities” to be volunteers for the dinner. They were successful in recruiting volunteers from McMaster University Athletics, the Hamilton Police and their fantastic school administration!

The first seating started at 11:45 and it continued on throughout the day, with each seating of students spending an hour socializing and having fun!

Some of the volunteers even wore bright, holiday themed sweaters to brighten the students’ day! It took a lot of teamwork to make this event happen, but we are so glad that there are people out there who are so willing to make sure our HWDSB students are happy and getting the nutrition they need!

Too many students go to school hungry because they do not have a means of maintaining a balanced diet. Days like these allow all students to eat and gain energy to play with their friends and fully participate in classroom activities.

The Queen Mary students appreciated the time all of the volunteers took out of their day to make sure the bellies of these students were full and their hearts were warm. The Queen Mary Student Council Twitter account posted a message with their gratitude, “It’s been said that the greatest currency one has to give is their time, with that we offer our HUGEST AMOUNT OF CARDINAL GRATITUDE to our Hometown Hero’s, Local Celebrities and Role Models! We cannot Thank You Enough!”

Festive lunches have been served throughout all of HWDSB this week and our schools are so thankful for the support from our surrounding communities.
