Earth Week: April 21-25
Earth Week
Happy last day before the long weekend!
Next week, we will be celebrating Earth Week with a series of activities designed to inspire our students to become active change-makers for the planet. Here’s what we have planned:
- Assembly: We will kick off Earth Week with an assembly at the beginning of the week
- Educational Resources: Students can watch Earth Day videos and participate in Kahoot quizzes to learn more about how they can make a difference.
- Community Clean-Up: Classes will participate in a community clean up in 15 min blocks: Gloves, recycling, and garbage bags will be provided.
- Earth Hour: From 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday April 24th, we will participate in Earth Hour by dimming or turning off the lights. We encourage everyone to refrain from using electricity or technology during this time. Bonus challenge: Try to go the entire day without using it!
- Earth-Related Activities: Students will engage in various Earth-related activities to further promote environmental awareness and action.
In connection with our Earth Week celebrations, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board acknowledges our presence on ancestral Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Confederacy land as determined by the Dish with One Spoon treaty. The intent of this agreement is for all nations sharing this territory to do so responsibly, respectfully, and sustainably in perpetuity. We respect the longstanding relationships with the local Indigenous communities, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Six Nations of the Grand River.
Together, we can encourage our students to care for the planet and take small actions that make a big difference. Thank you for your support during this busy time of year!
