Welcome Back!

Happy New Year to all!

As students return to school after the break, please take note of some important information for students:

  1. Please ensure your child arrives to school with cold weather clothing including a winter coat, boots, hat, scarf, mittens, and indoor shoes. An extra pair of pants to keep at school is a good idea for those slushy days when the snow can be heavy and wet.
  2. The Immunization of School Pupils Act (1990) is an Ontario law that requires children under the age of 18 years attending school to have an up-to-date immunization record, or valid exemption, on file with their local public health unit for designated publicly funded childhood immunizations. For the 2024/2025 school year, Hamilton Public Health Services will be enforcing the Immunization of School Pupils Act which may include suspension for students in elementary and secondary schools who do not have up-to-date vaccine records. To ensure that your child has an up-to-date vaccine record, please follow up with your health care provider and report your child’s vaccination record to Hamilton Public Health Services at: 905-540-5250 or Hamilton Public Health Services. You will need your child’s health card to access online records. Should you have any questions, you can email: [email protected]
  3. Going out for lunch is reserved for Grade 7 and 8 students and happens only at second nutrition break. Students must consume their food off-site – this means that they are not returning to school with food or drinks. Additionally, students must return to the playground to enter with their class at 1:10. Students who do not enter with their class are considered late and attendance calls will be made to caregivers.
  4. HWDSB adheres to a nutrition policy established by the Ontario Government (PPM 150) This means that when students celebrate birthdays, treats that are high in sugar, fat, or salt are not permitted to be shared with other students. This includes foods such as cakes, donuts, chips, candy, chocolate, etc. If your child would like to share a treat with classmates to celebrate their birthday, please consider alternatives such as fruit, vegetables, or non-food items such as a sticker or pencil.
  5. Lost and Found – this collection grows daily at school. Please ensure your child’s belongings are well labeled – including lunchpails, containers, backpacks, water bottles, clothing, and any other accessories.
