Human Rights and Equity Community Advisory Committee

Dear parents/ guardians/ caregivers,

The HWDSB Human Rights and Equity (HRE) Community Advisory Committee is seeking applicants
to join the committee. The HRE Community Advisory Committee meets regularly with a schedule determined by the committee. The committee is responsible for providing the Board of Trustees with advice on specific areas of Board policies and practices consistent with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Education Act. The Committee also provides advice and feedback using human rights, anti-racist and anti-oppressive approaches to support HWDSB’s commitment in identifying and addressing inequities and in creating learning and working environment that are inclusive, equitable and welcoming as outlined in HWDSB’s Equity Action Plan. The committee shall have no more than 13 members and no fewer than 7. The composition of voting
committee members includes community organizations, parents, and students. Non-voting membership will include up to 2 Trustees, a senior staff representative and other staff resources
as required. The HRE Community Advisory Committee is currently seeking: parents/ guardians/ caregivers to join the committee. Applicants must have children currently enrolled in HWDSB schools. It is preferred that applicants and/or their child(ren):
• Have lived experience and understanding of issues of equity, human rights and systemic
oppression in our schools and community at large;
• Identify as a member of Indigenous, Black, racialized communities, Two-spirit and LGBTQIA+
communities, people with disabilities and groups that may commonly experience
discrimination due to ethnicity, ancestry, religion, place of origin and other human rights
grounds.
• Be able to attend regular meetings.
