February News

Hard to believe we are heading into February.  Lots of happenings here at MJ as we weather the cold wintery months together.  Our nutrition breaks are a flurry of activities, all organized by our dedicated staff members.  Many students stay active by participating in Drama Club, Knitting Club, basketball practices, School Council, Latin Club, Choir and Band.  Our students participate in Physical Education classes and DPA (Daily Physical Activity) during instructional time. We know that our students’ abilities to perform well academically, manage self-regulation and maintain a positive well being is affected by regular physical activity.

Winter Warm Up Music Night – February 7, 2019
Come join us on February 7th at 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm at Bellmore School in the gymnasium.  Warm up with music and dance! All performances by our very own MJ students. Admission is $2.00 and all proceed will go towards our Music Program.  Check out our flyer: Winter Warm Up Music Night Flyer

Musical Notes
Band has been working diligently on two songs for the upcoming music night, Bells of Winter and Whirling Nova.  Super fun that M. Strong and Mme Strong have joined our band to help round out our bass section!

Choir has been working hard preparing two songs and learning some new vocal techniques/warmups! We are still going strong with about 50+ students regularly attending choir practices!

Show Choir is a small but strong group of students who have been really busy working on songs and also creating dances for two songs! We have one down pat for sure for the winter concert but are still learning the dances for the second. We are hoping to have both ready!

Carnaval is coming to MJ!
All students and staff will be coming together to participate in our annual Carnaval Celebration!  There will be a range of outdoor and indoor activities that foster an understanding of French-speaking culture and community.

Basketball
Senior boys basketball season is well underway and celebrates three wins to date.  The team has been working hard
and we are currently second in our division.  We are thankful to have our volunteer Coach Kyei working with the team.

Book Fair
Thank you to all who purchased books and goodies at our Book Fair.  We raised $3266.25 to purchase books for our Learning Commons. Our Spring Book Fair will feature french titles.

Report Cards go home on February 12, 2019.  

Winter Weather Warnings We are now into winter which can mean weather delays and cancellations. Please see the board’s information here about possible effects to our system: https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/wpcontent/uploads/2018/11/Severe-Weather-Handout-for-Schools-1.pdf  As well, please remember to continue sending students with appropriate outdoor clothing. Unless we are below -15 (or -20 with windchill), all students will be going outside for fresh air and physical activity daily.
