News and Notes – June 6

Hello Families,

Happy June! What a busy last few weeks we have approaching. Please see the list below for events happening in the school but also keep in touch with your child’s teacher for specific events in individual classrooms.

We want to thank our volunteers for all the dedication to Lake Ave school – we can’t offer all the programs and support without them! We celebrated this past week with a volunteer breakfast. If you would like to be involved next year we are always looking for people to supervise on trips, help with our nutrition program, support classrooms, etc. I would be happy to discuss opportunities individually, please call or email me.

On a less positive note, the vandalism after school hours is increasing, especially targeting our portables. I have been told this is primarily coming from older students from our community. This is now also impacting the much needed evening programming at the recreation centre. Please review your expectations and values with your children and let’s work together to make our community safer for all. Families need to be free to go out to play in the community without fear. Thank you for your support with this important issue.

Finally – save the date…June 26th we will be starting our day with a community Land Acknowledgement and O’Canada circle. We would love to have families join us for the event. We will also have some free backpacks for families to set aside for back to school (while supplies last, one per school age child).

Upcoming Events:

June 9 – Outdoor concert for students – students should bring a towel to sit on. Parents you may join us outside on the North side lawn but please be aware, there will not be any chairs available (standing only). 11:15ish Am start.

June 10 – senior track and field day

June 11 – Junior soccer tournament

June 12 – Grade 8 trip

June 12 – Kindergarten Teddy Bear Picnic

June 13 – talent show If your child is performing, you may join us to watch the show beginning at 1:45ish PM. Standing room only.
