Girls Who Can Poster – Winter 2025
Welcome Back!
Hello all, we hope the start of 2025 has been a good one for your and your families, our first week back seems to have been a good one for many of our students here at Lake. It’s always great to see smiles on faces when kids return after a break. When you see your children at the end of the day try asking some specific questions about their day, such as:
- What was the best part of the day for you?
- Who did you play with at recess?
- What did you learn in…(math/language/science)
- Did you have music, gym or art today?
- What was the biggest challenge today and how did you manage it?
- What’s one thing you did today that you are proud of?
- Was there a person who was kind to you or a person you were kind to?
We have a few reminders this week as we settle back into routines:
Please adhere to bell times. When students arrive late they miss entering with their classes and it disrupts learning for all. Even 10 minutes makes a big difference. Let’s teach our children that punctuality matters by helping them make routines that keep them on track. If you are finding mornings are difficult, little tweaks such as laying out clothing and preparing backpacks and lunches the night before work well to relieve morning stress.
We also want to remind parents that no cars other than staff cars are to enter our parking lot before or after school. This might be an inconvenience but it is a necessity for student safety. With more than 750 students and staff, this area was not built to support pick up and drop off. You can park legally using side streets and walk to the school for pickup. The streets directly in front of the school are also not legal for parking and may result in being ticketed by bylaw enforcement.
Parent information meetings – these begin next week. All parents are welcome to attend any of the meetings (they will cover the same content each time) but we will have different language interpreters each week. Our first session is January 14th with Urdu interpretation. January 21 will be Arabic, and January 28th will be Pashto.
Our first Parent School Council meeting of 2025 is January 13th at 12:50 PM. All parents are welcome to join us.
