News and Notes – September 27, 2024
Hello Lake Ave Families!
As usual, this past week was a busy one for Lake Ave staff and students. Our Terry Fox run was a huge success and we appreciate the donations that will support the Terry Fox Foundation in their research to end cancer. Donations can still be made next week.
We had our first pizza day this past week. Families can buy pizza slices for $2.00 each with cash or by purchasing tickets ($20 for 10 available online or at the school). Please submit cash or tickets by Tuesday morning for pizza on Thursday. We will not be able to give refunds for missed pizza that has been ordered. Please also keep tickets safe as they will also not be replaced if lost.
Next week we are hoping to start our Orange Shirt Day by singing O’Canada and sharing our Land Acknowledgement together on the playground for grades 1-8. This is an important day to think about the injustices of the past and how we can work together to move forward and consider Truth and Reconciliation to support Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
As October approaches we have several observances to celebrate. Our students will be learning about Islamic Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, Somalian Heritage Month, and Latin American Heritage Month through morning announcements and classroom activities.

October 3 – Pizza Day
October 3 – First day of ReOrganized classes
