Shelter in Place Response
Lake Avenue_Shelter in Place_Dec3
December 3, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This letter is to inform you that our school entered a Shelter in Place response today. Shelter in Place is used when all occupants within the school are kept inside the building due to an environmental or weather-related situation.
The Hamilton Fire department responded to a fire in the area. A staff member saw smoke approach the school. Out of an abundance of caution, we engaged the Shelter in Place response and brought students from the portables into the school building.
We were in touch with the Hamilton Fire department who confirmed the response at our school. We thank them for their support and service during this incident.
You can learn more about the Secure Schools Policy Directive on the HWDSB website at www.hwdsb.on.ca/elementary/supports/safe-schools/secure-schools
We want you to know that student safety is of the utmost importance at Lake Avenue. If you have any questions regarding this occurrence, please do not hesitate to contact the school at 905.561.0402.
Sincerely,
Brent Wallace
Principal (Acting)
