Community Involvement (Volunteer) Hours for Grade 8 Students
ATTENTION GRADE 8 STUDENTS AND PARENTS – IMPORTANT CHANGE TO COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT HOURS GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
To graduate in Ontario, all students must complete 40 hours of Community Involvement. The Ministry of Education has made a change around the timing of when students may complete these hours. Students may now start completing their Community Involvement Hours during the summer before Grade 9.
Starting on July 1, 2011 students who have graduated from Grade 8 may start working toward fulfilling this requirement for their Ontario Secondary Schools Diploma (OSSD). Students must complete 40 hours to graduate and we are encouraging students to complete these as early as possible in their high school career.
During May and June, all Grade 8 classes will be participating in a session to provide them with all of the specific details regarding eligible activities and the form that must be completed. If you would like more information, please go to www.hwdsb.on.ca/cih.
